Wellesley Bank Celebrates Centennial in 2011
A century ago - on January 24, 1911 – a few community-minded individuals formed a new bank with the goal of providing quality banking services to Wellesley and the surrounding towns.
Today, after 100 years of benefiting its town with safe and sound banking practices, Wellesley Bank prepares to celebrate its centennial. Bank President, CEO and Chairman of the Board Tom Fontaine speaks with pride of the bank’s many strides over the years, but also about how the bank has stayed true to its roots.
"In 1911," says Fontaine, "the bank had four employees. Services consisted of only car loans and mortgages and three types of savings accounts: regular savings, a club-type share and a paid-up share."
Today Wellesley Bank is a full service financial institution With more than 30 employees, It has two retail banking branches, personal and commercial banking as well as an investment management subsidiary: Wellesley Investment Partners. Today Wellesley Bank’s asset are at $250 million."
Fontaine notes: "With all the mega banks in the country today, Wellesley Bank is an excellent example of true community banking. We are mutually owned and governed by local people who maintain an interest in the community and its customers. The Bank, our Board, and all our officers are actively involved in the communities we serve."
The bank offers a full range of technologically advanced banking products, while maintaining an unparalleled personal service philosophy developed over many years of satisfying its customers.
